English All Purpose Saddles
All-purpose English saddles, also known as eventing or general-purpose saddles, are practical for a variety of disciplines, and make a great first saddle for beginners. From flatwork to fences, this saddle will truly do it all. The all-purpose saddle is popular for eventing competitions that consist of cross country jumping, show jumping and dressage over the span of three days. With the all-purpose saddle, the same horse and rider combination can use the same saddle for all three events, with no need for three different saddles.
The all-purpose saddle combines more forward-placed and longer leg flaps to facilitate both flatwork and jumping. This saddle uses slightly padded knee rolls to assist the rider over fences and provides additional comfort with the shorter stirrups needed for jumping. The longer length of the flaps enables the rider to lengthen their stirrups for flatwork and dressage, providing better contact and communication with the horse.
The seat is slightly deeper than other saddles, providing a more balanced ride on the flat and further adding to the stability and security for the rider, but it is not so deep that it will hinder the rider’s position over fences. The all-purpose saddle also uses three shorter billets for attaching the girth, which contributes greatly to the security and stability of the saddle, especially when used over fences.
The all-purpose English saddle is either is a great saddle for someone who loves to do it all, or is just learning what he or she loves to do.
